Paria and La Bottega Tour De Yorkshire

Paria at Tour De Yorkshire.

Well when the cycling world brings some of top world class athletes to your doorstep, what better way to celebrate by putting on a show. Thanks to Alex at La Bottega Coffee shops in Leeds, a group of strong Leeds Cycling brands were brought together to offer a slightly alternative slant the newest event in Yorkshire’s cycling race calendar; the tour de Yorkshire.

We exhibited some of our cycling kit and new cycling apparel designs along with some other local talent;

Restrap are known for quality bike packing and bike touring gear and accessories. If you want some quality cycling touring kit, they are your turn to brand. Their backgroiund is a literally a bedroom business to factory rags to minor riches, started by Nathan Hughes when he was 17, the brand has now grown to be a stalwart of the cycling scene. In their own words:

Restrap, are a British, family-run business specialising in hand-made outdoor accessories.

We started life in a back bedroom in 2010. From a single sewing machine, founder Nathan began making accessories for the outdoor market, initially pedal straps for bicycles, before branching out to develop the full range of bags, cycle luggage and holsters available today.

The back bedroom quickly became too small. Six years on and Restrap is now based in a large workshop on the outskirts of Leeds. We’re a close-knit team of outdoor enthusiasts, who design, develop and sew all our products by hand. We’re really proud of our Yorkshire roots and the landscape that inspired our products.

Aurelius Cycles  run by the iconic Leeds Mechanic and entrepenuer Marek Szczeplek. Aurelius offer a contemporary slant on the humble bike shop in Leeds, with both a workshop and a retail outlet featuring their own branded range of frames and full build bikes. In their own words

Woodrup cycles need little or no introduction if you are from Leeds (intact if you are from further a field too). For over 50 years they have served the local community with their encyclopaedic cycling knowledge of brands, mechanics and cycling culture. If you want a job done on your bike there isn’t much these guys don’t know about the inner workings of a hub or crank.

In their own words;

For over half a century Woodrup Cycles have been catering for the needs of cyclists across the world.  Initially founded by Stephen Maurice Woodrup and his wife Jean after Maurice returned from world war two, the company quickly gained a reputation for providing well-designed and meticulously appointed racing frames to the local cycling community.

As Stephen and Jean often rode with the very people that used their cycles, they amassed years of invaluable feedback that allowed them to continuously modify and refine their construction techniques and designs.

Stephen Woodrup, the couple’s son, apprenticed with his father for many years before taking over the main frame building responsibilities in the mid 1970’s.  Now after more than 45 years experience and thousands of beautifully crafted frames, Stephen still retains his joy for building and continues as the head of Woodrup cycles.  He is now joined by his son, Tony and Grandson Conor who carry on the Woodrup tradition.

Over the years Woodrup cycles have exported 1000’s of frames across the globe reaching countries as far as Bemuda and Australia.  The have been ridden by some of the UK’s cycling greats including Sid Barras and Barry Hoban whom held the record for the most Tour de-France stage wins of a British rider before Mark Cavendish recently took over his record. In fact, Barry Hoban is known to have won at least one Tour de-France stage on a Woodrup built frame.

Woodrup’s have stocked many bike and accessory brands over the years and have refined our stock to give you what we feel are the best products available on the planet. Come and visit us to peruse our extensive range of bikes for all ages and abilities, parts, accessories and clothing.

We at Paria brought our cycling kit to the locals and nationals, and it was superb to get some interaction with some of our customers. We have had some quality feedback on the designs and range, as we bring independent cycling brand to the market. Hearing first hand what people think of the technical cycling fabrics, alternative cycling designs and overall cycling kit design has been rewarding and insightful. It has given us plenty to think about how we can bring a bit of variety to the average cycling  apparel wardrobe.

Alex from the top notch  La Bottegas went balls out to set up a wicked show for the people of Yorkshire with superb Italian coffee, quality beer on tap and a huge screen to show all the action.

Plenty of the Leeds fixed gear crew were on hand to provide support to the local businesses, as well as ensure there was plenty of ale removed from the venue.

Alex from La Bottega is extremely supportive of the local cycling scene, and provides a start point and landing pad for the local Alba Rosa cycling group mid week. Some of the Alba guys were in attendance to show their support for La Bottega and the local cycling scene which was great to see.

So, a successful Tour De Yorkshire event, and there is plenty of action to look forward to and maybe even an Italian Coffee X Paria custom cycling kit………
