Cycling Fever hits Yorkshire

So…. Cycling fever hits Yorkshire again. 12 months after the Tour De France got the flat cap and whippet treatment, we get our very own test of blood sweat and gears as Le Tour De Yorkshire hits PARIA terra Firma.

Spread over 3 days from the 1st to 3rd May, Le Tour De Yorkshire professional cycling race takes in some of the toughest routes the county has to offer, and looking at the weather forecast we should be able to offer real Northern England climatic welcome…. of light to heavy rain (and if the riders are very lucky, maybe even a touch of snow).

Stage 1

On the Friday offers the spectacular scenery of North York Moors, finishing on our very own East Yorkshire Rivera of Scarborough. There are Cotes a plenty to challenge the Peloton, and even a few climbs without Cotes to get those T-rex style physiques pumping.

Stage Two

The race starts outside the imposing Selby Abbey., passing through the Yorkshire Wolds, and a looping circuit of East Yorkshire. Spectators will have the chance to see a circuit of York and organisers are hoping for a dramatic finish in the town similar to the shoulder crunching, elbow barging general mele Marc Cavendish offered us in 2014 in Harrogate.

Final Stage

Offers a repeat showcase of some of the roads smashed a new one by the Grand Depart, only this time in reverse. Taking in Hebden Bridge, Haworth and then scooting back into Leeds via Ilkley there will be a climatic finish in Roundhay Park.

So, embrace that inner lycra lover inside you (it will be in there hiding somewhere, we promise), embrace the cycling fever and get out on the streets of Leeds to support the riders. It’s a sight to behold and pretty impressive when you realize these guys are completing 515KM over 3 days averaging speeds well over 30mph, all on bikes that will probably cost more than a 2 bed semi in North Shields.

Ride hard peeps.
